AxionOpen 2026

Maria Timofeeva is the new champion of the Axion Open. In front of a sold-out crowd at the Chiasso Tennis Club, the naturalized Uzbek defeated Italy’s Lisa Pigato 6-2, 6-3. Pigato exits the tournament played on Swiss clay with her head held high. After saving a match point in the first round, the top seed gained momentum match by match, culminating in the performance that earned her the title. The 22-year-old, formerly ranked No. 93 in the world, is virtually climbing to around the 132nd world ranking, though she will be competing in the ITF W100 in Wiesbaden before the next ranking update. Next week, Pigato will take the court at the WTA 125 in Saint-Malo before making her debut with a wild card in the main draw of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia. Her provisional ranking stands at No. 138 and No. 3 in Italy, though we’ll have to wait until next Monday for official confirmation. The Axion Open returns next year for its highly anticipated 15th edition.
